The success of the small capsule collection, launched in 2017, has transformed Hôtel Vetements into a permanent label. Alexandra Hartmann, 37, and her teams unearth old curtains, tablecloths, bedspreads or embroidered fabrics, then remodel them into jackets, flowing blouses, pants, night masks or hair darlings. In velvet, cotton or silk, they are sometimes enhanced with mother-of-pearl buttons, also mottled. “Everything is recovered from flea markets, auctions or through the network of professionals and connoisseurs that we have built up over time, particularly in Provence”, explains the founder, daughter of a stylist and a graduate in responsible fashion at the Copenhagen School of Design and Technology. The manufacture of these fancy pieces (jacquards, oriental silks, floral patterns, checks, cashmere, etc.) is carried out in the in-house workshop, located in the Parisian district of Belleville.
